Assessment:
Design and Technology (Product Design) allows candidates to specialise in the area of Product Design. Students choose to complete this course with a focus on either Textiles or Resistant Materials although the course structure is the same in either case.

Students will learn about a range of resistive and compliant materials, manufacturing processes, techniques and technologies and will be able to use them as appropriate to the design and make process.

During year 10 pupils will complete a project in which they investigate a need, research, develop and make a product. This project comprises a significant folder of design work and will also require the purchase of suitable materials for the modelling and making of the final product. It will be necessary for pupils or parents to purchase these materials.

During year 11 pupils prepare for the final exam by completing a number of practical tasks. The examination questions are based on the skills, techniques and procedures used during the completion of the practical tasks.
