COMENIUS PROJECT
YEAR 9 - 'TREAD LIGHTLY ON THE EARTH' - NEW COMENIUS PROJECT 2008 - 2009
Those of you who have had offspring here for a while
may remember our previous Comenius project when we made links with schools in Belgium, Austria and Italy to study renewable energy.
The pupils who took part enjoyed the project tremendously and several had opportunities to travel which they would otherwise not have
had.
We have just received agreement for funding for a new, two year, project linked with the same partner schools plus new ones
from France and Poland. We have asked pupils from Year 9 to join the project which will run into Year 10. Thirty pupils
will get an opportunity to visit one or possibly more of the participating countries, staying with host families. Travel is
funded by the EU so all the pupils need is their spending money.
This project, entitled 'Tread Lightly on the Earth', will investigate
carbon foot-printing and ways to reduce our impact on the planet. During the two years we will make one visit to each of the
other five participating countries and study topics such as power, water, food, packaging and waste. The first visit will be
to Italy, from 14th - 18th October, where pupils will make a presentation about their own carbon foot-print and that of a country
from another continent.
If any parents need more details about the project please speak to Mr Griffin or myself as soon as possible.
